Bruno Mars has four Guinness World Records, 11 Grammy Awards, and ten Soul Train Music Awards to his name, and the list is far from complete for such a legendary R&B, pop-funk, and hip-hop artist. His award-winning consistency, however, pales in comparison to his previous personal life, in which he was frequently rumoured to have flings with his fans while maintaining a supposedly regular girlfriend. However, Bruno’s situation has completely changed, as he has been dating his girlfriend Jessica Caban since 2012, and they reportedly still can’t take their gaze away from each other. Let’s take a look back at his previous affairs, for which he is famous, or should I say infamous? Bruno Mars was born on October 8, 1985, in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, as Peter Gene Hernandez. Peter Hernandez, who is half Ashkenazi Jewish and half Puerto Rican, gave his son the nickname “Bruno” because he thought the boy resembled wrestler Bruno Sammartino.
Bruno, on the other hand, grew to accept the nickname as part of his stage name as he grew older. Bruno’s mother Bernadette immigrated from the Philippines, and both of his parents were singers, so he was exposed to a wide range of musical genres at a young age. At the age of five, he began performing on large stages and was soon cast in the 1992 film “Honeymoon in Vegas.” Bruno never forgot his musical background and Hawaiian roots, even when he and his father and brother had to live on the streets, on roofs, and in an abandoned zoo. He set a goal for himself to work in the entertainment industry, and he achieved it during his senior year of high school, when he began performing a cover of Michael Jackson’s songs. Mike Lynn, a well-known music producer in Los Angeles, heard Bruno’s demo and invited him to visit.
Who Is Bruno Mars Dated?
Chanel Malvar
Bruno moved to Los Angeles in 2004 and met Chanel Malvar, an aspiring actress who starred as a swop dancer in Big Boi and André Benjamin’s film “Idlewild,” a year later. Mars was struggling with his music career at the time Bruno and Chanel started dating in 2007, having been dropped by Motown Records after less than a year on the label. Bruno made money as a music producer and wrote songs for The Sugarbabes, Travie McCoy, and Jaeson Ma after he was unable to develop as a solo artist. In the meantime, Chanel continued to pursue her dancing career, but they spent a lot of time together daydreaming about a better life and more successful careers. Chanel’s MySpace page had a lot of photos of the two of them partying with their friends. While Bruno was recording songs for his first EP “It’s Better If You Don’t Understand,” released in 2010, she landed the role of a cheerleader in the film “17 Again,” starring Zac Efron.
The album’s success was a watershed moment for Mars, but his bond with Chanel appeared to be strong enough to withstand the test of time.
Chanel quit acting after a few more roles in films like “Bring It On: Fight to the Finish” and “Community,” focusing instead on supporting Bruno and making rare appearances.
Bruno, his brother Eric Hernandez, and six other musicians formed the band “The Hooligans,” and Chanel promoted their shows by posting information on various social media platforms. ‘He is so freaking ADORABLE!!’ she wrote on her MySpace page, where she posted photos of Bruno and “The Hooligans” performing at the club.
Chanel discovered Bruno was cheating on her despite appearing to be a happy couple and spending vacations together on Hawaiian beaches. Chanel revealed she had questioned Bruno about his fellow female singers after five years of dating him, but Bruno insisted he was ‘just working with them.
Chanel, on the other hand, broke up with him, writing a long letter in which she explained why they were no longer together. ‘I trusted you because I thought you were my best friend/significant other..and a best friend would never lie,’ she wrote in her open letter, adding that she was embarrassed to meet the girl with whom Bruno was allegedly cheating and that she had no idea what was going on. ‘I should’ve known when we met and she shook my hand like it was a secret… Chanel expressed her hurt feelings about a secret that only the two of you knew about, and I was the one who was laughed at behind closed doors.
People close to Bruno noticed that he stopped touring with Chanel, which they thought was strange because the two had never been apart before. Chanel later revealed that he did so in order to protect her from the hardships of long days on the road.
Rita Ora
Rita Ora would be the first to reveal that the young girl was indeed her. Chanel, on the other hand, stated that he wanted her to stay at home so that he could meet his lover, who was much younger than him. Chanel shared a photo of herself and Bruno on Twitter in January 2011, two years after the couple split up, with the caption: ‘once upon a time there was a girl who got lost. and finally found her way’. Chanel appears in several music videos, including Lady Gaga’s “Marry The Night,” Jasmina V’s “All These Boys” and “W.E.R.K.,” and T-Pain’s “I Can’t Believe It.” She also starred as a principal dancer in Mitch Sebastian’s musical “Cheers.” Bruno met Rita Ora, an aspiring singer from Prishtina, SFR Yugoslavia, in 2009, when he was still primarily working as a songwriter. After Rita signed a recording and publishing deal with Roc Nation, where he also worked with Jay-Z and Drake, Bruno began writing songs for her.
In an interview with Power FM’s Mando Fresko, Rita said, “He was the first songwriter I ever worked with.” At the start of her career, the 17-year-old rising star was so grateful to work with someone as talented as Bruno that she later said it was ‘love at first sight for her: ‘I thought, ‘Wow, that’s just the world’s greatest guy!’ Our time together was wonderful, but work got in the way once we got famous,’ Rita said in an interview with The Sun.
Rita knew Bruno had someone, according to Bruno’s then-girlfriend Chanel Malvar’s open letter, but she ignored it. Rita revealed that they met in Los Angeles and then worked in New York: ‘I knew Bruno for a while,’ she said, before laughing conspiratorially with Mando Fresko about her connection to Mars. Despite Rita’s candour about her relationship with Bruno, the “Uptown Funk” singer remained silent and did not respond to her words; he also did not respond to a single question about his affair with Rita, despite the fact that he was bombarded with them from Chanel Malvar.
